Homeowner says tree service took deposit, left tree standing
I hired Native Tree & Landscaping in Lancaster, Massachusetts, to remove a tree. I did business with this company two years ago and everything went well. Owner Shay Kuntz got back to me a few weeks after I contacted him and gave me an estimate of $1,400, to which I agreed.
He requested a $700 deposit, stating that he had to pay the crane operator in advance. I paid the deposit and he set up an appointment.
He called me three days before he was due to come out and said he was in a bind and his chipper was in the shop. He contacted me after the appointment time had passed and said he would call me back to reschedule because it was too late to start the work now. I called him in two weeks, then four weeks later, and he gave me lots of excuses.
I finally just asked for my deposit back. He agreed, but I never heard back. I contacted him three weeks later and I got no reply at all and have had no contact from him since.
I want my $700 deposit refunded because the company hasn't started any work and agreed to provide a refund.

Have a complaint?
Our Angie’s List complaint resolution team attempts to resolve disputes between members and service providers. During this process, three outcomes can happen: Penalty Box, Resolved or Stalemate. Companies that don’t respond to a member’s complaint will be placed in the Penalty Box until they respond. A case becomes Resolved if a company addresses the complaint to the member’s satisfaction, or it becomes a Stalemate if the provider responds, but the company and the member can’t reach an agreement.
