Homeowner says Miami remodeler increases prices, works slowly
I hired Maurette Construction in Miami to undertake a multi-part remodel of my home.
The work has lagged behind schedule, and owner Leo Hernandez constantly asks to adjust the prices agreed upon in our contract. He creates change orders, sometimes after the work has been completed, and says work won’t continue until we pay him. He created a change order for tile work that added more than $6,500 to the price in the contract.
In January, I paid Hernandez a $15,500 deposit for impact windows and doors. When they didn’t arrive, I spoke to the owner of the window store. He said he didn’t receive the down payment until two months after I gave it to Hernandez.
On top of everything, his subcontractors have damaged my hardwood floors and other parts of my home, and he refuses to fix it.
I will let Hernandez buy out of the contract for $10,000, so I can hire someone else. Otherwise, I want them to finish the job, quickly and correctly, without asking for more money.

Have a complaint?
Our Angie’s List complaint resolution team attempts to resolve disputes between members and service providers. During this process, three outcomes can happen: Penalty Box, Resolved or Stalemate. Companies that don’t respond to a member’s complaint will be placed in the Penalty Box until they respond. A case becomes Resolved if a company addresses the complaint to the member’s satisfaction, or it becomes a Stalemate if the provider responds, but the company and the member can’t reach an agreement.
