Homeowner says Lake Park contractor never started storage loft
I hired Wood Working Unlimited of Lake Park, Fla. to build a storage loft in my garage. I provided the measurements over the phone, and owner Jim Scott provided an estimate of $1,500, stating it would take two days to complete.
He called back three days later and said the price increased. I told him to keep it under $1,900. He said he needed $750 upfront, and I delivered the deposit. The second increase came after I paid the deposit.
Rather than writing another check for $1,300, I called the lumber company and made arrangements to pay them. Scott arrived at the same time as the lumber and said he had to make another drawing because it was not what he expected. He also said he had to get permits.
I called a few days later and he said that it was going to take a while to get the permits and get the drawings done. I never heard from him again. I want a $750 refund.

Have a complaint?
Our Angie’s List complaint resolution team attempts to resolve disputes between members and service providers. During this process, three outcomes can happen: Penalty Box, Resolved or Stalemate. Companies that don’t respond to a member’s complaint will be placed in the Penalty Box until they respond. A case becomes Resolved if a company addresses the complaint to the member’s satisfaction, or it becomes a Stalemate if the provider responds, but the company and the member can’t reach an agreement.
