Homeowner claims deception by Houston HVAC company

Homeowner claims deception by Houston HVAC company

COMPLAINT: Phyllis Aston, Spring, Texas

"I hired Admiral of Houston for a routine spring checkup of my HVAC unit. Their technician advised that units were leaking Freon and needed servicing. I told them I had a home warranty insurance plan that covered HVAC.

"One pound of Freon per unit was included with the service call. They asked if I wanted them to add the Freon. I questioned this because the units were leaking, but they said there'd be no problem with adding Freon at that time.

"They added 18.95 pounds of Freon at $79.50 per pound. I only meant for them to add the free pound per unit, but I know now that no Freon should have been added until the leaks were repaired.

"I was told by the company that did the warranty repair work that the HVAC technician should have known never to add Freon to leaking units unless it's an emergency situation.

"I feel they added the Freon in order to make a profit, since they knew home warranty would be doing the repair work."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "Since the company did add Freon, I'm not asking them to eat the entire cost of $1,347. I feel a refund of $600 is fair."

STATUS: Penalty Box

Disingenuous, At Best: "re-sent the e-mail a week later as proof that we were going to take care of this oversight right away"
Is "Right Away" a week long in Houston? His FIRST email should have said "the funds have already been credited" - NOT a "week later" and STILL WAITING. There is No Excuse for refusing to return a customer's call.
BOTH these companies appear to have Trained their techs to Steal - they both deserve eternal Penalty Box damnation.

$79.50 per pound of freon? That is theft! You should not have paid more than $40 per pound, and 18 pounds??? For how many systems? My customers pay $30 per pound and if there unit takes more than 4 pounds then I recommend they try to repair the leak before adding more Freon.
