As you venture out into the outdoors to donate your time, remember that you’ll need to protect yourself from the sun’s rays. Though getting a little sun is good for your body and mind, excessive sun exposure can lead to painful sunburns, prematurely aged skin and it is the number one cause of skin cancer.
Keep skin covered up. Tightly woven fabrics effectively block out the sun’s rays. For ultimate sun protection, wear lightweight clothes that fully cover your limbs. Top off your look with a wide-brimmed hat that shields your eyes from the brightness of the sun and shades your face and neck.
Slather on the sunscreen. To get protection from both UVA and UVB rays, choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen that contains at least one of the following active ingredients: ecamsule, avobenzone, oxybenzone, titanium dioxide, sulisobenzone or zinc oxide.
