Gilbert movers change industry perceptions
After a nightmare experience that led to attorney general action against another moving company, Gilbert member Shirley Light no longer trusted movers. However, with another relocation on the horizon, she searched Angie’s List and hired Always Professional in Moving of Gilbert, Ariz.
The Arizona moving company’s willingness to maximize every second of the move changed Light’s perception of the industry. “It was so refreshing to do business with honest people,” she says.
Shedding perceptions continues to be a big part of Always Professional’s mission, a challenging task owners Ray and Bernadette Lavigne say they don’t take lightly.
“We build trust from the first phone call and throughout the process by being upfront and thorough,” Bernadette says, adding that the company gives an all-inclusive price and never adds fees after the move starts.

Always Professional in Moving, which services all of Arizona, earned the 2011 and 2012 Super Service Award.
Ray, a self proclaimed moving guru, started the company in 2007 after witnessing several unethical customer service issues in the industry. The company that began humbly in the couple’s garage now employees nearly 15 people and operates from a warehouse 10 times the size of the garage, Bernadette says.
Members say the company treats them as if they are family and that togetherness can be seen in the office as well. The Lavignes’ two daughters created a bulldog mascot, Bruiser the Mover, who makes appearances at the local Relay for Life American Cancer Society fund raiser, biannual food drives sponsored by the company and at local events. Recently, Bernadette rescued an English bulldog puppy that now spends its days at the company’s headquarters.
Ahwatukee Foothills member Robert Ashcroft says the company delivered spectacular results from start to finish. “They made a normally anxiety filled experience so much easier,” he says, adding that the company arrived early, wrapped all the furniture and padded the doorways to prepare for their 6:30 a.m. move in the Phoenix, Ariz., area.
Customer feedback motivates Bernadette to keep the moving business ethics at a high level.
“I never want the company to get so big that the customer suffers — the personal touch is imperative,” she says.
Light agrees that the moving company excels because of their personal touches and extensive moving knowledge, and she adds that she refers Always Professional to friends and family. “A satisfied customer is worth more than paid advertising and I am very satisfied,” she says.
The Super Service Award recognizes contractors and health care providers that have maintained a stellar service rating on Angie’s List throughout the past year. Be sure to always check the List before hiring, however, as ratings can and do change.
