Three highly rated masonry contractors from the Tampa area lay the foundation for bricklaying.
What types of masonry work does your company offer?
Chris Bush: We’re a father-and-son artist masonry company doing small masonry installations and brick work.
Josef Baal: We specialize in all types of repair, including brick, block, stone and cracking that occurs when houses settle. We also do masonry upgrades.
Rick Tucker: I specialize in brickwork. We do a lot of front entrances involving pavers and concrete, as well as landscape masonry, sidewalks and privacy walls.

What is the price range for your services?
Bush: Depending on the brick quality, it’s from $4 to $7 per square foot for materials and labor.
Baal: I’ve done repairs that range from $350 to $1,500. It depends on the extent of the damage.
Tucker: The price varies by job. It depends on many factors, so it’s hard to give a ballpark range. I’ll discuss price with the homeowner.
What should homeowners look for when choosing a masonry or brick professional?
Bush: You want to find someone who’s going to be creative rather than just build rectangles.
Baal: The most important thing is experience in that particular kind of work. You want someone who will make a repair job look like it’s something new.
Tucker: Definitely look for someone who’s licensed and insured, including bonding, liability insurance and workers’ comp. You want a contractor who will be upfront with the homeowner.
What’s the best time of year to get masonry work done?
Bush: June, July, August and September are slow, so that’s a good time to do it. The rest of the year, brick suppliers are behind.
Baal: The winter months between October and February are best, because the rainy season can throw complications into a repair. You want sunny, dry days for this kind of work.
Tucker: We work year-round, but I enjoy doing work during the cooler months of the year.
