Furnace issue leaves Independence homeowner without air

Door dilemma

COMPLAINT: Raymond Gilley, Gladstone
"I had Farm and Home Builders Inc. install siding, gutters and guards, and new front and screen doors. They ended up installing retrofit gutters when they should've installed Leaf Relief. I negotiated to get them to install the right gutters. When they installed my screen door, they installed the wrong one."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I'd like them to replace the screen door."

RESPONSE: Danny Oppenheim Sr., president, Farm and Home Builders Inc.
"Even though we don't agree with the member misrepresenting our company, we'll see what door he wants. If it's in the same price range as the door we put on, we'll give him a new door."

STATUS: Resolved
Farm and Home Builders Inc. replaced the screen door.

Hot under the collar

COMPLAINT: Jack and Juanita Edmisten, Independence
"Northland Heat & Cool installed a furnace and didn't check our air conditioning, which works in conjunction with the furnace. In the summer, our air conditioning wouldn't work. We contacted Roy Strange, the owner, who stated [we should] call someone else, even though the heater was under warranty. We had a new company come out and they noticed the wires to the AC [had been cut} when the furnace was installed."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "We ultimately bought a service plan with another service provider because Northland refused to honor the warranty. We would like $600 for these expenses."

RESPONSE: Roy Strange, owner, Northland Heat & Cool
"I correctly installed the furnace. I did the wiring to the air conditioner correctly and when I tested the unit, it worked. When the members called, I told them I couldn't get there [right away]. I'm a one-man shop, with one part-time worker. I didn't refuse service to them. I did my job correctly. I'm not at fault and they can't have any money from me. I suggest everyone drop this issue, clear my name and put this behind us."

STATUS: Stalemate
