Flooring estimate mix-up puts emphasis on written quotes
COMPLAINT: Jan Huff, Nashville, Tenn.
"I hired Stanley Flooring Inc. to patch an area of hardwood flooring. The owner came out and gave me an estimate of $150. I chose him over several other companies due to this low price and his level of knowledge. He sent another gentleman to do the work, and he did a nice job.
"However, when he gave me the bill, it was for $450. I called the owner, and he was unwilling to honor the low price he had quoted. He immediately said he would just put a lien on the property. I feel like I was tricked into choosing them with the low price."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I was quoted $150 and charged $450. I would be willing to split the difference and pay $300 to resolve this complaint."
COMPANY RESPONSE: Stanley Siembida, owner/ president, Stanley Flooring Inc.
"We would be willing to come to the compromise the member has proposed and have her pay $300. There must have been a misunderstanding as the price originally quoted to the client was $450, but as the client honestly believes it was $150, we are willing to compromise and resolve the matter.
"In the future, we will make sure to provide written quotes even for smaller jobs to prevent such a misunderstanding from occurring again."
