Floor company accused of poor workmanship

Floor company accused of poor workmanship

COMPLAINT: Kenneth Hintze, Cincinnati

"I contacted Don & Sons Natural Custom Hardwood Floors to bid on remodeling my kitchen and resurfacing my hardwood floors. Don [Bundy, owner] said my floors needed to be sanded down to bare wood, re-stained and re-urethaned. There was also a portion of the floor that needed to have new wood inserted.

"He initially did an excellent job. He then did the staining and urethaning while I was out of town. I said I wanted the color to be identical to what I had. Don tried to talk me into a lighter color; I said no. However, he stained the floor a beige color nothing close to what I had requested.

"In addition, he didn't tape off the doorways or use dust reduction devices, and the house was filthy, requiring me to spend over a week cleaning.

"I had paid him $872.50 up-front as he requested. When I asked him to redo the floors, he said he would, but with great reluctance. I was concerned about his attitude and his workmanship, so I got the opinion of another floor resurfacing company. They said the floor was not evenly stained.

"I decided to go with the other company and asked Don for my money back, minus $100 for the stain and urethane. He said he would pay me back but he needed two weeks to gather the funds. I agreed.

"Over the next five weeks, I repeatedly contacted him for the refund. He kept promising but never delivered. Due to the cost of having to service my new furnace because of the dust Don left behind, I am now asking for the full amount of $872.50.

"He has not been cooperative in refunding my money, even after agreeing to do so. He accepted no responsibility for the wrong stain and his sloppy workmanship."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I would like a complete refund of $872.50."

STATUS: Penalty Box

The problem with you asking for all your money back is that you never gave him a chance to fix whatever it was that he allegedly did wrong.
