Find a dentist who offers emergency dental care
A dental emergency can happen at any time of the day, and having established a relationship with a dentist in your area can help you receive the treatment you need in a timely manner.
In the past year, more than 4,000 Angie’s List members have searched for Los Angeles dentists. More than 2,600 highly rated dentists were listed as of August 2011.
Find out from your dentist if he/she offers emergency hours. Most dentists recommend that one should get treatment within one hour of the dental emergency.
If you are unable to see the dentist immediately, follow these tips to help ease your dental issue until you are able to be seen by a professional.
Chipped or broken teeth: The mouth should be rinsed out promptly with warm water. The tooth pieces should be saved, and ice can be applied to the outside of the affected area. If it is a small chip and it will be more than a day before you can get to the dentist, you can file down the tooth with an emery board to help to reduce any irritation to the inside of the mouth from jagged edges.
Crown comes off: The crown should be saved, and the inside of the mouth needs to be rinsed out. In some instances, the crown can be reapplied with dental adhesive if it is going to be a few days before one can see the dentist.
Tooth is knocked out: Keep the tooth and rinse out the mouth. The tooth might be able to be placed back in the mouth in some instances. Storing it in milk or water with a small amount of salt until you see a dentist is recommended.
With a few simple steps you can do at home, dental emergencies can be managed effectively until you are able to see a dentist.
