Exceptional car service keeps members’ vehicles in tip-top shape

Here’s the latest Post of Happiness for great service from Raleigh/Durham in auto service as selected by the Angie’s List Newsroom staff.

Wasp Automotive, Durham

Julie Daves turned Wasp Automotive for a second opinion after her former mechanic provided an expensive estimate. “My previous mechanic, who I went to for eight years with the same car, told me that my 2005 Subaru Forester’s rack and pinion was toast, and I needed to repair it, or it wouldn’t pass inspection,” Daves says. “The cost estimate was $2,000. The Subaru expert at WASP looked at my car and said that I didn’t need to do that. He said it was a leaking head gasket that was right above the steering and therefore people who don’t work on Subaru’s a lot commonly think it’s the rack and pinion steering. He didn’t charge me a dime. He said my ol’ Subaru was running really well. Saved me a bunch of money. You can bet I will be taking my car there from here on out. Reliable, honest people who know what they’re talking about.”

My Mechanic, Cary

My Mechanic gained Gary Yellin’s trust by providing superior quality repairs. “I wouldn’t think of taking my cars anywhere but to My Mechanic,” Yellin says. “My Mechanic is by far the most honest and ethical auto repair shop with whom I have ever dealt. I know that if they tell me something needs to be done, it really needs to be done. I am completely confident that they will never, ever try to sell me a service just to make money.

If you want to take your car to some fancy auto shop where they serve you gourmet coffee, and know the names of your children and pets, but also find all sorts of things that are wrong with your car, beyond what you knew needed repair, My Mechanic may not be for you.

However, if you want an auto shop where they really care about your car, where they don’t try to get every last dollar from you for repairs you don’t need, and where you know they will always treat you honestly. then don’t go anywhere but My Mechanic.

I always have felt that I was at the mercy of car repair shops in that when they said that something needed to be fixed, I had to trust their honesty and would agree to the repair they suggested.

I know I may sound like a cheerleader for My Mechanic, but that is how strongly I feel about the way they do business. Once you get your car worked on by My Mechanic, you won’t go anywhere else. That is, unless you like being charged for work unnecessary!

Dauntless Transmissions, Raleigh

Dauntless Transmissions offered sound repair advice to Charles Midvett. “Gil nad Max Gutierrez of Dauntless Transmissions made sure that I received the best service advice and support offered from the very first phone call to them,” Midvett says. “Previously, I received a diagnostic recommendation from another shop that I needed to replace my failed transmission with either a remanufactured unit or a used unit. The quote was several thousands of dollars. I decided that another opinion was needed from someone specializing in transmission repair and selected Dauntless Transmission. Gil explained in detail how he verifies a transmission problem before making any recommendation or incurring any cost. His recommendations made technical and logical as well as business sense to me. Gil found a drive axle was incorrectly installed causing the transmission to become disengaged. He suggested I return the vehicle to the service shop that performed this service for a warrantee repair. Therefore, I saved the needless expense of replacing my transmission. It’s not easy to find a service providing the trust, honesty and professionalism offered to a new customer.”

Tao Auto, Cary

A dealership’s exorbitant charges sent Kristina Brown to Tao Auto. “The mechanics quickly diagnose the problem and usually get back to me in half a day with the recommended repair and estimate,” Brown says. “In this case, the dealership told me to replace the timing chain cover. However, they wouldn’t clearly explain why, but said the repair was needed immediately and would cost over $1,000. I took the car to Tao for a second opinion and they found the problem, but had a clearer repair recommendation instead of replacing the entire timing chain cover.

I feel dumb for taking the car to the dealership and should have started with Tao Auto. I only went to the dealership because there was a promotional credit for our account but it’s not worth it! I’m sticking with Tao Auto for both my car’s repairs and service.”
