COMPLAINT: Rainer Thomas, Beaverton, Ore.
"Waste Management – Northwest's garbage and recycling trucks were pulling into my driveway to pick up my stuff and occasionally to turn around. I noticed damage to a section of the driveway, which correlated to where I had seen their wheels stop when they pulled in.
"Their company denied my claim, stating that without video evidence, they would do nothing. When I call, I am stonewalled."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want $1,600 to replace the two damaged slabs in my driveway."
RESPONSE: Steve Wolfe, district manager, Waste Management
"Waste Management conducted a thorough investigation into the cause of the damage to the member's driveway. The investigation included a site visit by route manger Steve Walters in order to take pictures, obtain measurements and establish contact.
"While there, Steve indicated that Waste Management would file a claim with our insurance company. Based upon our investigation, Waste Management believes our vehicles were not the cause of the damage to the two slabs."
"Unfortunately, it appears the concrete work done when the home was built in 1999 was substandard. In an effort to resolve the complaint, Waste Management will direct our insurance company to reimburse the member for the portion of his driveway damages that he alleges we caused. We do this in the spirit of being a partner in the community."
