Deck Maintenance Company Spruces up Backyard Space
Tired of scrubbing and staining her 30-year-old deck herself, Angie’s List member Catherine Rock of Akron, Ohio, hired highly rated Deck Rescue of Hinckley, Ohio, for the task.
“When we moved in, the deck hadn’t been maintained,” she says. “We didn’t know anything about decks, so we did nothing for a number of years. Finally I did some reading, and my husband and I cleaned the deck and stained it using an oil-based stain in redwood, the same color that had been used previously. It was hard, messy work.”
Finally, she says, she decided to hire someone to clean and stain the deck, and found Deck Rescue on Angie’s List. “The color, redwood, was very dark, and there was buildup from previous staining. Charlie Simmons [local owner] told me that it’s possible to change it to a lighter color for an additional charge. I decided to do that. Charlie did a power wash, full strip, and applied several coats of Wolman RainCoat Natural Cedar. We loved the results — the lighter color was definitely a good move.”
The cost totaled $525, and Rock says she knew just how to celebrate her “new” space. “Every fall we have a neighborhood wine party on the deck,” she says. “After we’ve had it cleaned, people said how great it looks. A big deck is expensive to maintain, but for events like this, it’s like having another room — and we don’t have to worry about wine stains on the carpet!”
