"A deck or porch adds living area to your home. Many people enjoy relaxing outdoors, and having a deck or porch enhances their ability to do this. Here in the Atlanta area, many people build a combination of a screened porch and open deck.The screened porch allows you to eat and entertain without the inconvenience of insects or inclement weather. The open deck is used a lot for grilling and enjoying the sunshine on a beautiful day."

What kind of materials do you use and how much does it cost?

"For deck building we use a lot of composites - Brazilian Ipe, cedar or pressure-treated pine. We offer a wide variety of trim packages for the screened porch, ranging from cedar to PVC columns to built-in fireplaces. Our average project cost ranges from $15,000 to $50,000."

Do I need to get a permit?

"It's generally recommended to get a building permit before commencing on a project. The zoning office makes sure you're not building on any setbacks and they send out inspectors to ensure that the project complies with standard building codes."

What do I need to do to maintain my deck or porch?

"There's no clear rule for staining or sealing as it ddepends on how much sun and rain exposure you receive. For most projects, it's recommended every few years."
