Dallas travel agent tips on Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport (DFW)
If your travel plans are taking you out of the deep heart of Texas via a flight the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metropolex, you've got plenty of options, say Dallas travel agents.
If you're flying out of the Metroplex's main airport, Dallas/Ft. Worth International (DFW), your best bet for getting there is friends or family, or by hiring a taxi or private care, says Mike Currie, a travel agent with highly rated Cruise Holidays of Southlake. "DFW will be connected by light rail by 2014," he says. "Until then a private car for drop-off is the best alternative and town cars are very reasonable at $40 to $75 each way."
According to the DFW airport website, parking can range in expense from $8 to $23 per day. Currie adds that with the expense of airport parking, coupled with the fact that the airport itself is under 4-year renovation plan, getting dropped off or picked up is a great way to avoid hassles or delays before you travel.
If you live in Dallas, you may also want to check flights originating from another area airport, such as Dallas Love Field (DAL). "Love Field is a great option for those living in Dallas, but it’s predominantly for Southwest Airlines flights," Currie says.
To avoid long lines at DFW, both at the check-in counter and at security checkpoints, he recommends scheduling your flight to avoid peak travel times. "Sunday, Monday and Friday are the days to avoid due to the high volume of business execs traveling those days," Currie says, adding that the best times to get through security more quickly are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the week and before noon on the weekends.
Along with the ability to get tips from an experienced traveler, Currie says consumers should consider using a travel agent as an advisor, rather than trying to perform online research on their own. "Many products, services and pricing on the Internet are not what they appear to be," he says. He especially recommends consulting with a travel agent when vacation plans costs more than $1,000 total per person.
