COMPLAINT: John Racanelli, Plano, Texas
"Granite & Tile Outlet installed tile in six bathrooms and laid travertine tile flooring throughout my home. Workers weren't fluent in English and the foreman wasn't on site for most of the job, creating problems with the initial installation.
"I had two colors of tile for my master bath shower. I explained that the lighter color was for the ceiling. When I came back from returning the excess tile, the two colors were mixed on the wall. The floor heating system is inoperative in the master bathroom due to a break under a tile they replaced without my permission. GTO denies replacing the tile.
"GTO agreed to cover the flooring after installation to protect it, but they didn't, and as a result, the tiles were damaged. They assume no responsibility for this. They haven't replaced some of the tiles they agreed to replace, and there are still pencil markings on the stairs.
"There are cracks in two of the travertine stairs. GTO employees discussed how and when they could fix the stairs and the holes in the travertine tiles. Later, they said they weren't responsible and weren't going to [fix them]. There's a hairline crack in the entryway crossing over a few tiles. Some of the travertine wasn't culled, resulting in stark variation.
"GTO agreed to lay tile at $2.50 per square foot and stone at $2.75 per square foot, but billed $3 per square foot. They didn't return many calls and broke or rescheduled appointments without ample notification. When workers showed up, they told me they weren't sent to do the work GTO told me they were sent to do."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I'd like Granite & Tile Outlet to resolve the issue with the floor heating system; clean the pencil markings off the stairs; fill in the holes and cracks and replace a dozen tiles."
