Customer demands back deposit for screen install
COMPLAINT: Donna Oglesby, Tampa, Fla.
"My grandmother and I hired Brown Rescreening and Repair in Brandon, Fla., to install a screened porch. [Steve Brown, the owner] asked for a $400 deposit for the $800 job. My grandmother wasn't comfortable giving him half, so she wrote a check for $200. He cashed it the same day.
"He was a no-show the day he was supposed to start. We called and he said he'd be back the next day, but didn't show up, saying someone stole his tools. He broke another appointment after that. He then told me he wouldn't be able to get the materials and he'd come over to return the deposit. He never arrived. Every time we ask about getting the money back, we get a different story."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I would like the $200 deposit back."
