Customer claims mulch work doesn't cover contract
COMPLAINT: Michael Chapman, Powell, Ohio
"A Reliable Mowing Landscaping Contracting of Columbus, Ohio, was to apply black mulch in my flower beds and around all the trees and shrubs in my yard. The areas had been mulched previously every year; no new areas needed to be created.
"After I removed excess rotted mulch left over from last year, the crew applied the new mulch. They were gone before I got home from work. A few days later, I inspected the job and found many areas where the mulch was far less than the contracted 2-1/2 inches thick, and some places only had an inch or less of mulch. The contractor apologized and said he would take care of it when the weather improved.
"When I pointed out several areas of very thin mulch, he stated that mulch starts to compress over time and gets thinner. After two months, a mulch layer 2-1/2 inches thick should still be close to 1-1/2 inches thick; however, in my yard there were already many places that had become nearly bare. He said he would fix the problem and he applied a few bags of mulch on the bare or nearly bare spots only. He didn't touch most of the thin areas. I have tried multiple times to have him finish the job, but he's been totally nonresponsive."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want the company to apply enough mulch to bring it up to the contract's thickness."
