Custom design gives swimming pool a natural look

When considering ideas for their new swimming pool, Cornelius, N.C. members Elizabeth Miller and her husband, Travis, discovered what they wanted based on a design illustration. “We spoke to several pool builders,” she says. “In the end, it was the 3-D drawing that sold us.”

Elizabeth says they were in the planning stages for about six months before they chose their contractor, highly rated Superior Pools and Spas of Cornelius. She ultimately decided they were the right company after they recommended features no one else mentioned.

Her favorites include bowls that act as a fire feature, a pub table and small cascades. The fact that Superior Pools and Spas was a local company also influenced the Millers’ hiring decision.

When it came to the design process, the Millers were very involved. The contractor introduced the original concept and they added their own touches. The Millers’ focus was on customization and a look that blended in with their yard. “My husband and I chose the materials ourselves,” she says. “We wanted something very natural-looking.”

The Millers budgeted $65,000 for their pool installation, but with the added features, they ending up surpassing it by about $10,000.

“Everything moved quickly and smoothly,” she says. “When something came up, it was taken care of.”

The most enjoyable part of the process for Elizabeth was the transformation of her backyard. “The pool was dug and shot in two or three days,” she says. “That was pretty amazing to see.  To say we are pleased with our new pool is an understatement. It’s gorgeous!”
