Consumer says Virginia Beach used car dealership won’t do transmission repair

I bought a used Jeep Cherokee from Trucks R Us of Virginia Beach. Three days later, I took it back because the engine light came on. The mechanic didn’t find anything wrong.

The vehicle began smoking a few days later, and I had it towed to the shop. They kept the car for two days, but didn’t find anything wrong. The engine light was off, and I drove it for two days before it started smoking again. This time, I was down the street from the shop, so I drove the vehicle there.

The owner argued with me and said nothing was wrong with it. The owner told me off, shut the door in my face and told me to take the car. I left the car there.

Two days later, he called to say they replaced the brakes, which he claimed were the problem. The engine light came on again, and my husband took the car back since I no longer felt comfortable doing so. The owner wasn’t there, but when he called later, he told my husband the problems were brake related and hung up on him.

My son went to pick up the car the next day, and we parked it. A local Jeep dealer did a diagnostic test, which cost $230 and revealed it needed a new transmission. Although I purchased a warranty, the warranty company won’t honor the repair because the problem existed when I bought the vehicle.

I want Trucks R Us to pay $4,483 for a new transmission. If they can find someone to repair it for less, that’s fine.
