Consumer says Shelton auto repair shop broke more than they fixed

Member complaint

I hired Watson Diesel Repair of Shelton, Washington, to repair my truck. They gave me an oral estimate of $1,300 and one week repair time. When they did not contact me, I contacted them. They said they found more problems and the new estimate was $3,500.

My truck was now inoperable in their shop, so I had no choice but to agree. Then, they began escalating the estimate and dragging out the job. Finally, after eight weeks, they said the truck was fixed. When I went to pick it up, they said the cost was $9,300!

When I protested, they reduced it to $7,266.98 and I reluctantly paid this outrageous price, because I needed my truck for work. When I drove the truck away, it had the same problems as when I brought it in! Now I had a broken truck and they had my money. I returned the truck, and they promised to make it right at no additional cost to me.

After keeping it two more weeks, they said it was done and presented me with an additional bill of $956! I informed them that my cruise control wasn’t working and my air conditioning was broken. They denied any responsibility and continued to lie about the situation.

I am 70 years old, self-employed and I rely on my truck for work. Watson’s not only ripped me off, but they deprived me of 10 weeks of income. I want a refund of $5,000 as well as my cruise control and air conditioning repaired.

Have a complaint?

Our Angie’s List complaint resolution team attempts to resolve disputes between members and service providers. During this process, three outcomes can happen: Penalty Box, Resolved or Stalemate. Companies that don’t respond to a member’s complaint will be placed in the Penalty Box until they respond. A case becomes Resolved if a company addresses the complaint to the member’s satisfaction, or it becomes a Stalemate if the provider responds, but the company and the member can’t reach an agreement.
