Concrete driveway cracks under extreme Milwaukee weather

COMPLAINT: Paulette Wymbs, Milwaukee
"I hired D & H Construction Services LLC to replace part of my driveway, the garage floor slab and the front sidewalk. I started seeing cracks on an area of the driveway I don't drive on.
"I called them back three times, and the owner said I needed to have the driveway sealed at a cost of $800 in addition to what I had already spent."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want them to either refund me $600 or completely redo the two sections of cracking concrete."
RESPONSE: Mike Dimmer, owner, D & H Construction Services LLC
"In the winter, Wisconsin experiences extreme weather conditions, and there is no warranty on concrete. Due to the freezing and thawing cycles, hairline cracks can be expected. I don't like it, but it's out of my control."
"When we poured the concrete slab near the member's wooden porch, we instructed her to place dirt between the porch and the concrete. No dirt was added. This caused a drainage problem that may also have contributed to the hairline cracks.
"When she asked me for a solution to the problem, I recommended that the concrete be sealed because sealing would fill in the minor cracks."
