Company ignores Philadelphia-area furniture complaint

COMPLAINT: Nicole Jenkins, Upper Darby, Pa.

I purchased a sectional from La-Z-Boy Inc. [on Baltimore Pike in Springfield]. I had a gathering three days later and after everyone left, I was shocked by the appearance of the fabric where two guests had been sitting. There were two large bright spots, apparently caused by body heat. They couldn't be brushed away.

The seat cushion of the corner wedge was greatly depressed on one side. I inspected the furniture carefully and realized some of the pieces didn't look like they belonged together — they fit in a mismatched way.

La-Z-Boy sent someone to my home to take pictures, and the serviceman commented that he couldn't believe they were still using that particular fabric. La-Z-Boy eventually sent foam to be added to the corner wedge and one portion of fabric to replace where one bright spot had appeared.

Apparently, they'd have someone come reupholster one spot but not the other. Besides not being comfortable with what that outcome might be, the fabric they'd sent was extremely wrinkled. I'm very unhappy because I spent more than $2,000 for this sectional and had it for just a few days before the problem arose.

I've been calling, but no one with any authority has expressed genuine concern for my complaint. I feel like I was given the runaround treatment. A team leader [with La-Z-Boy] had entered notes stating the corporate office said the spots were a characteristic of the fabric and nothing would be done. I think the fabric is of very poor quality.

DESIRED RESOLUTION: I want a refund.
