Renaissance Inc. — The House Whisperer opened in 2001 and has won the Super Service Award in 2008 and 2009. Todd gives estimates, does the design work and manages the projects, while Becky keeps the books. “We’ve been married for 27 years,” says Becky, adding their love for one another and for what they do is a big boon. “We have the same ideas and goals.”

Todd Smith has lived in Columbus his entire life — something he believes has added to the success of the kitchen, bathroom and basement remodeling company he owns with his wife, Becky.
"I know the area very well," Todd says. "I understand the market value for each neighborhood, so I can give people more bang for their buck."
He says his unique perspective also allows him to know what will, and will not, work in his clients' homes. "I don't have a problem talking a customer out of a project if I know it won't look right," he says. "I don't take jobs just to take them — I want them to be the best quality possible."
In January, Angie's List member Linda Lehman interviewed four remodeling companies before hiring Renaissance to redo her master bathroom. "He was the only one who listened to what I wanted," says Lehman, adding that Todd assisted her with the design and even made great suggestions when it came time to choose the materials. "He knew the tile I had picked out wouldn't look great, so he got samples he thought would look better. He was right!"
Becky says it's not just her husband's good eye for design that appeals to customers. "Todd always keeps function in mind," she says. "He accommodates both the tastes and needs of each client."
Angie's List member Elizabeth Klein agrees and says when she hired Renaissance in August to remodel her bathroom, Todd helped her pick out materials and figure out storage issues. "I was unsure about removing the original linen closet," Klein says. But Todd helped her find the perfect solution. "I look forward to working with him on my next project."
While Todd agrees his ability to focus on the big picture and the little details makes him stand out from his competition, he also feels respect and honesty have taken him a long way. "It's simple," he says. "I just treat people the way I would like to be treated.
