Clackamas landscaper transforms backyard with flagstone patio
When Angie’s List member Janet Wieneke of Portland, Oregon, tired of the landscaping in her backyard, she decided to make a change.
“I wanted a space outdoors that was relaxing, easy to maintain and pleasing to the eye and psyche,” she says.
Wieneke searched the Internet and cross-referenced reviews on Angie’s List before ultimately deciding to hire highly rated Landscape East & West in Clackamas, Oregon, for the $25,000 project.
They removed vegetation and dug out and laid a flagstone patio and path. Wieneke says they also converted her irrigation system in order to minimize water loss, relocated sprinkler heads to grassy areas and reprogrammed the sprinkler system so it waters more efficiently.
According to Wieneke, she had a few rhododendrons she wanted to give to a friend, and Landscape East & West carefully removed them and tied them up so she could transport them easily.
To create the flagstone patio, Wieneke says she met with Sue Hicks, one of the designers at Landscape East & West, who helped Wieneke choose the types of stone to use.
Wieneke says her favorite part of the project was coming home each day and seeing the progress. Now, she enjoys her new space.
“Spending time in, or even just looking at, the backyard is such a pleasure now — not a continual reminder that I should do something,” she says. “I wish I’d done it a while ago.”
