Cincinnati vinyl siding issue unresolved

COMPLAINT: Denise Aguero, Loveland, Ohio
"My home's siding came loose during a storm. House Doctors Handyman Service explained they needed to remove and rehang an entire section as there was waving, probably from improper installation. They also noted the upper J-channel [soffit] and corner siding were loose.

They said the work required a boom lift and two men. I agreed to the original price of $1,849, which seemed acceptable due to the scope of the work. When I saw the work coming along, I was surprised to see no siding was removed. They had loosened the siding's end and renailed it. They also said the waving was due to the framing and couldn't be fixed.

They also said the J-channels were OK. I paid the workers the agreed invoice price, because they don't deal with the pricing. When I spoke to Dan [Landon, the owner] about the cost being different from the estimate, he stood by it, despite the extreme difference in the work's scope. He applied two coupons to bring the total to $1,649, and offered $300 off future work. I don't want future work. I paid them to rehang siding - it wasn't done according to invoice and the cost remains."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want a $649 refund."

RESPONSE: Dan London, president, House Doctors Handyman Service "Our invoice reflects the scope of that work and this is exactly what was done. The customer agreed to a fixed price on the work specified, which we completed.

If it's a quality issue, we're more than happy to address that. The member wants a lower price. It's inappropriate to negotiate a price after the work is done.

We gave her a $200 refund and offered a $300 discount on a future job. We feel this is more than adequate."

STATUS: Stalemate
