Cincinnati gutter company fails to complete project
COMPLAINT: Stephen Tattershall, West Chester, Ohio
"I contracted with The Gutter Genie Co. in Moraine to replace a skylight and reseal three others; remove my gutters; repair, restore and paint wood fascias; rehang the gutters; and repair damage to my home's roof. The work was begun, but not completed.
Never responded to Colter Paulson's complaint regarding what he says is a shoddy and unsatisfactory roof installation. Third month in the box.
The Gutter Genie Co.
Didn't respond to Stephen Tattershall's complaint concerning what he says was unsatisfactory and incomplete gutter and roof work. First month in the box.
"The damaged wood and most of the gutters were removed and repaired, but the replacement wood was inferior and didn't match the existing. They replaced rough sawn cedar with smooth yellow pine. They agreed to replace the inferior work but didn't do so.
"The woodwork subcontractor was good, and repaired adjacent damage to the frame structure, as required, without asking my approval. But when he questioned the use of materials that didn't match the existing wood, the primary contractor told him to proceed without asking me.
"When I saw the final result, I only approved it on the condition the materials would be replaced with rough sawn cedar to match the existing. While the contractor agreed to do that replacement, they never did so. They claim all the work has been done but nothing has been. The roof and skylight work was never completed and now they leak worse than ever."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "The work must be completed promptly or I want my money returned. The construction materials must match, and be equivalent to or better quality than the existing materials. If this is not possible, I am willing to negotiate for partial return of my money if we can agree on revised scope and cost, and the contractor completes the agreed work."
STATUS: Penalty Box
