Straddling the fence
COMPLAINT: Ken Blank, Cincinnati
"I hired Affordable Fence to replace my wooden shadow box fence with a privacy fence. They gave me a quote over the phone on Monday and told me they'd replace my fence on Thursday. The owner came out on Friday, not to install, but to look at the job and get a deposit. He said they'd be out on Monday but didn't return until Tuesday when they did a majority of the work.
"They insisted that my wife pay more but the work was far from done. Boards extended beyond the fence and large nails stuck out. They didn't use new posts, used two different types of boards and left the old fence piled in my front yard. The company returned to make the changes but didn't encase the original fence posts.
"They missed six appointments, and my fence still stands wobbly and unfinished. They won't return my calls. I ultimately had to dispose of the old fence, even though that was supposedly included in the rate."
"I want them to return my money and take down the fence."
STATUS: Penalty Box
COMPLAINT: Ron Hoffman, Southgate, Ky.
"I hired Affordable Williams Tree Service to take a tree down, which went OK. However, they broke other bushes. I called them several times, and they never got back with me. When they first took the tree down, they were very prompt, but they haven't returned phone calls since."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I'd like them to look at the damage and clear the mess they made."
STATUS: Penalty Box
