COMPLAINT: David Lovely, Chicago
"I discovered that the slab under my floor was cracked and the hardwood parquet flooring had become impregnated with mold.
"I hired JBK Construction Inc. to remove all the flooring, patch the cracks in the slab and lay new bamboo laminate flooring. The work wasn't completed on time, but the delays were only two days.
"Several weeks later, the glue securing the flooring came undone in several areas and needed to be reglued. I contacted JBK, and they said they'd send someone.
"They never followed through on the scheduling, despite several attempts on my part. Over the course of a year, there were multiple no call-no shows on their part.
"I ultimately found another contractor to complete the work. JBK promised to pay for the substitute work, but never complied after six months.
"They also claim to have mailed the only copies of photographs of the work to the insurance company, which never received them. The payment on my insurance claim was ultimately denied, costing me an additional $5,000 for the repair."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "Ideally, I want JBK to compensate $5,500 for the denied insurance claim, but I'll accept $500 in compensation for what I paid for the additional contractor's work."
