Chicago flooring company refunds money to resolve dispute
COMPLAINT: Cathy Sheil, Aurora, Ill.
City & Suburban Floor Sanding Co. installed new oak flooring, sanded and finished my family room floor, and refinished my kitchen and foyer floors. They did a horrible job. There are streaks and brown patches all over. I called Bill Kelly, the owner, to come look at the floors. He told me they were out of business and he couldn't help me. Then he must have felt compelled to come take a look at my floors. He told me he couldn't see anything wrong, but offered me $1,000 or to come back and buff them.
I contacted another hardwood floor company, which told me they could possibly fix them for $1,000 by buffing, but it wouldn't be a guaranteed solution, and that the only guarantee would be to resand them for about $4,000. I e-mailed Bill this info to see how he wanted to proceed. He responded a few days later telling me he had a heart attack and surgery, and that he was bankrupt and unable to help. If he's had a heart attack, I'm sorry, but I'm out $5,250.
DESIRED RESOLUTION: I want a $5,250 refund.
Editor's note: Sheil informed Angie's List that she received her refund and considers the matter closed.
