Charlotte contractor accused of overcharging

Charlotte contractor accused of overcharging

COMPLAINT: Jena Jenkins, Gastonia, N.C.

"I hired Scott Barrett [the owner] of ATT Building to be our contractor. The first invoice submitted to my bank reflects a charge of $12,325 for clearing, excavation, backfill and fill dirt.

"Pat Barnes, the grading contractor who performed all clearing, excavation and hauling, invoiced $5,700 for the lot clearing. Of that invoice, only $4,800 was paid.

"That is a difference of $7,525 not accounted for that wasn't returned or applied to other construction costs. An expense report provided by Barrett shows a $5,005 charge from Dugans Trucking for hauling fees.

"I haven't been able to find any information of any such company or been provided an invoice from a Dugans Trucking. Barnes Excavating is the company that did the work.

"Barnes has stated and also provided a notarized statement that all clearing, excavation and hauling was done by his company. I also have the cashed checks reflecting my full payment. Barrett will not return my calls.

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I would like to be reimbursed since I was overcharged."

STATUS: Penalty Box
