Carlsbad patio designer turns barren backyard into paved paradise
During the first seven years Kimberly Dyess lived in her San Diego area home, she had no desire to spend time in her backyard.
“I had no interest going into the weedy, dirt-filled backyard, and I basically kept the blinds shut so I couldn’t see it,” says the Angie’s List member.
When Kimberly and her husband, Kirt, would discuss how to make the yard more inviting, they had very different ideas. She wanted more grass and some basic or stamped concrete. He wanted patio pavers to dominate.
Most contractors the couple met with weren’t able to bridge the difference between their tastes.
“I was tired of arguing about the back and side yard and just wanted it done,” Kimberly says. “By the time this appointment came around, the fact that my husband liked what he saw and also liked [the salesman], we agreed to go with the project.”
For $30,000, highly rated System Pavers turned the barren yard into an paved outdoor living room, complete with a stone wall, fire pit and hearth for a pop-up flat-screen TV. They even carried the design around the side door.
Kimberly says the company was able to satisfy both of their desires because the workers listened to what they wanted.
Kimberly says the yard she once shunned has become the place she goes for morning coffee, when she isn’t just standing there enjoying the view.
“It’s extraordinarily relaxing. My husband and I have enjoyed spending the warm evenings outside,” Kimberly says. “I must say, the dogs are having a good time as well."
