Car repairs questioned after ruined road trip
COMPLAINT: Tom Burton, Wilmette, Ill.
"I hired Wilmette BP Lake & Green Bay to fix an oil leak. I was about to give my car to my son so he could drive it to California for an internship. They recommended other work in addition to the oil leak, which I also paid for. They assured me the oil leak was fixed and the car was safe for my son to drive cross-country. However, it wasn’t fixed.
"The car seized up and died on the trip. I paid $1,600 for the work and still had to buy a $6,250 used car for my son to get to work. The manager told me that unless their precise work caused the leak, they owe nothing. My position is that this is absurd; they assured me it was fixed, and it wasn’t, leading to the car’s ruin."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I would like a refund of the cost for the original work and the cost of a replacement car."
