Cape Coral tile company installs uneven job, homeowner says
I hired Distinctive Tile & Marble in Cape Coral, Florida, to install tile flooring throughout my entire house. They had one employee who did a great job, but the other workers were far below his skill level.
I paid them to use a special system, which the owner suggested, to avoid creating an uneven surface. But there are multiple tiles in the bedrooms and kitchen that are different heights.
I had to remind the owner to butter the bottom side of the tile or it would cause hollow spaces. This makes the tile more likely to crack. He disagreed, but when he pulled up a recently set tile to prove me wrong, one-third of it had no thin set mortar on it.
If they tried to repair the sunken tiles now, it would crack the surrounding pieces. I know because I had them tear out some tiles in the hallway, and two surrounding tiles chipped.
I want a refund of $1,700, which is one-third of the total price.

Have a complaint?
Our Angie’s List complaint resolution team attempts to resolve disputes between members and service providers. During this process, three outcomes can happen: Penalty Box, Resolved or Stalemate. Companies that don’t respond to a member’s complaint will be placed in the Penalty Box until they respond. A case becomes Resolved if a company addresses the complaint to the member’s satisfaction, or it becomes a Stalemate if the provider responds, but the company and the member can’t reach an agreement.
