Brookfield awning company resolves homeowner’s complaint
I hired Awnings Unlimited of Brookfield, Ill., to replace an old awning over my back entrance with a new one. When the owner came out for the measuring, we discussed how the awning should be pitched and what side the water should run off. They were kind and installed the new awning in a timely manner.
However, soon after, it rained pretty hard, and I noticed the pitch and water runoff were on the wrong side, getting everyone wet as they try to enter.
I called the owner right away, and he apologized for the error and said they would correct the work in a week. They didn’t do so, and every time I call, there’s a different excuse why the work hasn’t been done. I’ve had to endure a sheet of ice directly in front of the entrance due to the horrible weather.
I would like them to correct the pitch and drain drip edge so water runs off the opposite side.

Try as we do, we cannot always control water flow/ice formation, especially in extreme weather conditions. During the initial sale, when we suggested a larger awning for better protection, the member refused. We compromised and capped the awning gutter and pitched the awning per member specification.
We will return to the job and add more pitch to the awning. However, it is just an awning, not an enclosure; the water has to go somewhere.

Have a complaint?
Our Angie’s List complaint resolution team attempts to resolve disputes between members and service providers. During this process, three outcomes can happen: Penalty Box, Resolved or Stalemate. Companies that don’t respond to a member’s complaint will be placed in the Penalty Box until they respond. A case becomes Resolved if a company addresses the complaint to the member’s satisfaction, or it becomes a Stalemate if the provider responds, but the company and the member can’t reach an agreement.
