Bothell paint problems resolved, lien removed
COMPLAINT: Clinton and Susan White, Bothell, Wash.
"Seattle Paint & Drywall Inc. painted the outside of our home. The person we signed up with left the company, and we've had problems since. They never really completed the painting. The front door wasn't done properly, and some wood wasn't sealed properly before staining.
"They came back and painted it the wrong color and never finished the sealing. We paid $3,000 once the work was completed to our satisfaction, and they put a lien on our home for the full amount less the $3,000.
"They said they'd remove the lien if we sent [part of the balance], and we agreed, but they didn't clean up after their work and we had to pay $191 for another company. The paint on the pillars started peeling a month later, and they painted when it was too cold outside."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "We want a credit of $191, and for the exterior front doors and pillars to be painted when it's warmed up. The lien must be removed immediately!"
RESPONSE: "At our last meeting, she presented a punch list, which we completed. She pointed out the pillar and a color issue on the front door. There were a few issues with the tannic acid, which bled through wood trim above their door. That was primed with an oil-based primer, and we applied two coats of paint. They still weren't satisfied, so we did the process again.
"They were both satisfied with the front door paint until she saw it wasn't as white as the trim. We explained the product on the door was the proper one and that the trim color was [the same color]. There was one spot of wood we remedied.
"We weren't given any money because of the door and pillar, so we placed the lien until they made the final payment. They paid $3,000 of $5,788. We requested $1,788, and let them retain $1,000 for the door and pillar.
"We sent them a $50 gift certificate to their choice of one of three high-class area restaurants, but she made a comment about our office not caring. This is the first we've heard of paying someone else to clean. We were made aware of a window with paint on it, which we cleaned. We regret that she isn't happy."
Editor's note: The member informed Angie's List that the work was completed and the matter is resolved.
