Boston roofing contractor denies breaking slate tiles

COMPLAINT: Bharath Venkataraman, Weston, Mass.

"Superior Roofing Industries Inc. [of Shirley] replaced my rubber roof, adjacent to a slate roof. They broke an entire row of slate tiles and told me it was crumbling and needed to be replaced at a cost of $15,000.

"Another roofer came and did the slate replacement at a fraction of Superior's cost and said the tiles were in excellent shape. Also, I'd asked Superior to come clean up."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want Superior Roofing to remove the shingles and compensate me for the slate tiles they broke."

RESPONSE: Sean Green, president, Superior Roofing Industries Inc.

"An evaluation of the member's roof notes that slate tiles bordering the rubber roof at the sloped roof plane may need replacing.

"Superior isn't willing to compensate for broken slate tiles as we have documentation and photographs indicating the slate's poor condition.

"The patio is now cleaned."

STATUS: Stalemate
