Boston area roof repair results in dispute
COMPLAINT: Irene Martyniuk, Lynn, Mass.
"I hired Hightower & Son Roofing of Chelsea [Mass.] for repair work to my slate roof. Owner Robert Hightower required and was given a 50-percent deposit totaling $2,100. He completed a small portion of the work, patching some areas around the chimneys that were leaking. He did not provide a copy of his contractor’s registration after promising to do so. He didn’t reply to 25 calls over a period of three months, only calling back when a written request was sent to him. He said he didn’t feel he had the experience to complete the rest of the work on the slate roof.
"We agreed that he would come the next day and he would return $1,600 and provide a written report about what work was completed. I have called him and left messages daily, and he hasn’t responded, nor given any reason for his absence. We are now several months behind on getting the needed work done."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: Return $1,600 and provide a written report of what work was completed.
