Billing issue spurs Bedford HVAC contractor complaint

COMPLAINT: Alex Wiedmann, Lexington, Mass.

"I showed the serviceman from Bedford Mechanical Inc. the fan I had removed from the A/C condenser. He took the serial and model numbers, and said he would call with an estimate if he could find the parts.

"I was never told there would be a charge for an estimate. Another company showed up and also took data. They said the parts were available and returned in about an hour to replace the fan.

"I called Bedford and told them someone else did the job and that I didn't need an estimate. They sent me a bill for $130."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I would like Bedford to cancel my invoice."

RESPONSE: Bob Romano, general manager, Bedford Mechanical Inc.

"We will credit the invoice. The member never indicated the motor was out of the unit. In that case, we would never have gone out."

STATUS: Resolved
