Anton’s Floorcovering  | Savage, Minn.

Angie’s List member Pat Pierce believes the new carpet that Anton’s Floorcovering installed in her Minneapolis townhouse helped it sell quickly. “He stayed within our budget and didn’t try to push a more expensive carpet on us,” says Pierce, one of 12 members who nominated the company
for a Page of Happiness in the last year.

Owner Anton Korotchuk, whose work doesn’t require a license, says his team cares about customers’ homes. “It’s more than a daily earnings or daily wage,” he says. Each of his 13-person crew specializes in one type of flooring, including hardwood, carpet or tile, and they regularly attend educational workshops, he says. The company is lead-safe certified by the EPA and operates a paperless office.

Member Terry Drewski of Plymouth, Minn., hired Anton’s to repair water damage in her basement. “He’s very good at explaining what needed to be done, and he gave me options,” she says. “I have no qualms leaving his crew in my home.”

Korotchuk, who was born in Ukraine, donates money to Hope for Orphans, a Shakopee, Minn.-based nonprofit that supports Russian orphanages.

Bill’s Wildlife Control & Removal | Apple Valley, Minn.

Owner Bill Egan says he taught himself to catch wild critters. “I started chasing them when I was little,” says Egan, who holds the required state Department of Natural Resources trapping license and nuisance permit. “I learned about their habitats and learned respect and appreciation for wildlife.” He started his company in 2005.

Bloomington, Minn., Angie's List member Bob Lawson, one of 11 who nominated the company for a Page of Happiness in the last year, calls Egan the “mouse doctor.” He hired Egan twice to remove mice and a squirrel. “He took a complete analysis of the problem before he just shot from the hip,” Lawson says. “He knew their psychology, how they think and how they breed and how they get in.”

Kendrick Electric | Apple Valley, Minn.

Lakeville, Minn., Angie's List member Andrea Dajnowicz says she hired Kendrick Electric in June to install recessed lights in her living room and add an electrical switch in a bathroom. She says she appreciates that the electricians put customers first and offered suggestions. “I was pleased all the way around, which is unusual,” she says.

Members also praise Kendrick for offering readily available appointments, as well as showing kindness toward their dogs. “We have someone in the area at all times, so we can dispatch them as needed,” says owner Mark Melander, who purchased Kendrick in 1997 with his brother, Murray.

Kendrick, which holds a state electrical contractor license, employs a crew of 15 and offers eco-friendly LED lighting. “What makes us stand out is the quality of our electricians, their design ability,” Melander says.
