PYM Air Duct Cleaning | Ballwin, Mo.

Emmie Gerritsen says PYM Air Duct Cleaning owner Yuriy Pomazov helped educate her on her heating and cooling system while cleaning her ducts. “He was just such a hard worker, but never made me feel like I couldn’t ask questions,” says Gerritsen, adding that the team was also exceptionally kind to her curious kids.

Like other Angie’s List members, she praised his pleasant attitude and thorough work habits. “The higher the standard you have for yourself, the better you look on the battlefield,” says Pomazov, who started his family-run business in 2002.

PYM has won the Super Service Award every year from 2006 through 2009, and was one of St. Louis’ Best Contractors in 2009.

The Tech Team | Chesterfield, Mo.

Sam Moretti began fixing computers at age 18, spurred by a love of gaming. Nearly three years ago, he turned his hobby into a career when he launched The Tech Team, which was also one of St. Louis’ Best Contractors last year. Angie’s List members rave about his intelligence, honesty and can-do attitude.

Steve Miles says Moretti spent more than 30 hours working to streamline his network, reformat his drives and perform other tasks to get his three computers running more efficiently. “He helped me in my thinking as well as my organization of files,” says the Wildwood [Mo.] member.

Moretti says he and The Tech Team’s other technicians work hard to help clients better understand their computers while fixing their problems. “Computers are not the most friendly thing to a lot of people and we want to bolster a feeling of comfort,” Moretti says.

I agree, very disappointing, a whole year and only 2 recommendations? Are contractors in St. Louis that bad?

I'm with Drew. A duct cleaning company is a "contractor"? Not on my planet. I understand they fit the dictionary definition. So does my nail tech. But in common parlance, when someone says "contractor", what does the word imply. Shoot, you even do it yourself when you made your video about questions your contractor shouldn't ask. You clearly implied remodeling or building. You should rename this to best "service provider" of the year.

Thanks for your comment, Drew!

The selection of "best" in St. Louis is based on a variety of factors. Among those are that these companies come from popular categories on Angie's List and must qualify for the prestigious 2010 Angie's List Super Service Award, which means they have a current and overall grade of A and are in good standing. Seriously? I subscribe to Angie's List hoping to find the best contractors in my area, and I get a duct cleaning company and a computer tech service? How are these contractors? I'm looking at spending tens of thousands on major house renovations, and the best contractors are people who won't charge more than a few hundred for services? Maybe, *maybe* the tech guy would charge more for 30 hours of work. But the worst offenders for poor contracting service are usually in the construction and remodeling industries, and I can't get recs on these services?? C'mon Angie's List, you're losing my business.
