Best Sacramento Contractors of 2012
Bello Hardwood Flooring | Citrus Heights, Calif.
Granite Bay, Calif., Angie's List member Gary Schindler describes himself as hard to please, but says Bello owner Dorel Solovastru’s restoration of his hardwood floors in September wowed him. “I don’t give glowing reports,” Schindler says. “But Dorel and his people are special.”
Solovastru, who holds a California C-15 flooring license, says he learned the trade while working for his wife’s cousin 12 years ago and founded Bello in 2007. He works by himself, but says he hopes to hire his nephew part time sometime this year. “I believe staying small makes me successful,” he says. “I’ve worked with a lot of guys during the years, and saw a lot of sloppy work. I need to be on the job to supervise everything.”
One member remarked in her Angie’s List review that Solovastru works well around children, and he says he offers bamboo products when possible to conserve trees.
Sacramento member Bill White hired Bello to refinish his 30-year-old floor in December. “I’ve had fairly good luck with contractors, but Bello was better with scheduling and keeping me apprised of what’s going on,” White says. “Needless to say, I’m very satisfied with the work quality.”
Garick Air Conditioning Service | Sacramento, Calif.
Sacramento member Paula Thomas says an extra step taken by a Garick technician during an A/C service call in June saved trouble for both parties. “After finishing, he stayed and let the unit run through its cycle, and found that it still wasn’t right,” she says. “If he had left, I would have had to call him back.”
Garick owner Gary Bulfinch founded the company in 1980 with longtime friend Rick Julian when the two combined their first names to form the company name. Julian passed away 10 years ago. All of Garick’s technicians are EPA certified. Shop manager Jonathan Turner says Garick, which holds a California C-20 HVAC license, places customer satisfaction over profits. “There have been times we’ve really taken a [financial] hit to keep the customer happy,” he says.
Tenorio’s Handyman Service | Citrus Heights, Calif.
Manuel Tenorio started his handyman business in 2009 after working in the construction industry, and he’s pleased Angie’s List members since with his attention to detail. “He was so thorough and precise about the materials that were needed and with his inspection,” says Rio Linda member Clarissa Hindman, who hired Tenorio for an October door installation. “I really admire the guy for building up his business the way he has.”
Tenorio, who holds a Sacramento County handyman license and works solo, emphasizes communication. “I try to make sure everything is clear before starting the job,” he says. “Everything is written down, including start and completion times, materials and labor costs.”
