Best Raleigh Contractors of 2012
Bone-A-Fide Pet Care | Raleigh, N.C.
Karen “Kato” George traces her love for animals back to childhood, when she used her allowance to feed feral kittens. She founded Bone-A-Fide in 2007 after moving to North Carolina to be closer to family. Since then, she’s cared for cats, dogs, birds, small mammals, llamas and even a pig. “The foundation of the company is built on a deep-rooted love for animals,” says George, whose staff undergoes training in CPR and pet first aid. “I think our clients can tell through our actions and communication that we genuinely care for their pets.” George donates to ASPCA and the Humane Society, and her company uses biodegradable pet waste bags.
West Raleigh, N.C., Angie's List member Tatiana Brito felt comfortable leaving her cat in Bone-A-Fide’s care, even though he requires high blood pressure medication. “A month is a long time to be away, but he felt safe and secure with Kato,” Brito says.
Member Siobhan Whitaker, who lives in the Stonehenge neighborhood of Raleigh, has been using Bone-A-Fide's pet sitting service to watch her dog Samson for two years. “She [George] has been such a gift and Samson loves her so much,” Whitaker says.
CCF Tree Service | Five Points, N.C.
CCF Tree Service owner Christian Etheridge worked for other tree service companies during his breaks while in the Marine Corps before starting CCF in November 2011. “There are the fly-by-night [companies] versus arborists. Almost everything we do is based on arboriculture and horticulture.” CCF is a member of the Tree Care Industry Association and Etheridge volunteers with a local church group. He sells or donates his leftover wood.
Morrisville, N.C., member DeAhn Baucom hired Etheridge to remove 10 trees from her yard last June. “There’s cleaning up after yourself like my 16-year-old daughter or cleaning up after yourself like Christian,” says Baucom, adding that he was polite to her daughter. CCF has received 12 Page of Happiness nominations in the last year.
Carolina Restoration Services | Cary, N.C.
Cary, N.C., member Jay M. Brown called CRS to help with water damage after his water heater cracked. “Within an hour, Travis Bailey of CRS had not only called me but was at the front door with a sympathetic ear and his moisture meter in hand,” Brown says.
Bailey, general manager of the family-owned company, says he’s humbled by the strength his clients show after their properties have been affected by severe weather, like the tornados that struck the areas in April 2011. “We grew stronger as we further cemented our desire to positively impact the families and business owners who come to need a helping hand,” he says. CRS donates to charities and uses green building materials purchased locally. The firm received the 2012 Cary Chamber of Commerce Employer of the Year Award.
