Best Portland Contractors of 2012
C. McNearney | Portland, Ore.
Northwest Portland Angie's List member Patty Langdon says four-time Super Service Award winner Charles McNearney did quality work with her bathroom remodels that will hold up for years, and even took the initiative to fix a light in her dining room. “He was walking through dining room and noticed that one of the light fixtures we had done five or six years ago wasn’t flush with the ceiling,” she says, adding that McNearney was sweet to her cat.
McNearney, who holds an Oregon general contractor license and received 14 Page of Happiness nominations in the past year, says he uses quality products that will be sustainable and result in less waste overall, such as concrete for countertops and low-flow toilets. “Good quality materials make or break the job,” he says. McNearney is involved in a not-for-profit organization run by one of his customers called WaterAfrica. McNearney has one assistant and uses licensed subcontractors for plumbing and electrical work.
Sylvania, Ore.-area member Peter Waskiewicz hired McNearney to repair his shower floor. “Charles was very meticulous, was conscious of cost, but also was obviously paying attention to quality and detail,” he says.
Exodus Pest Control | Portland, Ore.
Owner Bryan Healy got into pest control at age 19 and says that he didn’t expect to love it. In 2009, he started Exodus Pest Control, which operates as a state licensed pesticide applicator. Healy says he provides honest assessments for consumers. “I’ve been a customer all my life and I know how it feels,” says Healy, who volunteers as a chair of the Ambassador Committee for the Hillsborough Chamber of Commerce.
Aloha, Ore., member Wendy Hawkins has used Exodus for two years to help keep away field mice and ants. “Bryan is fun and interesting,” she says. “We look forward to seeing him, and know he is on our side in the critter wars.” Exodus received 12 Page of Happiness nominations in the past year.
All Tech Appliance Service | Clackamas, Ore.
After a power surge damaged several of Kenton, Ore., member Steven Marquardt’s kitchen appliances, All Tech owner Brian A. Dawson fixed them in time for Marquardt to prepare food for his Fourth of July party. “Everything had to be done on a tight schedule, but All Tech definitely came through,” he says.
Dawson, who holds an Oregon construction contractor license, received 12 Page of Happiness nominations in the past year. “When I set out to start my own company, I took all the experience I had,” he says. “We’re a service company, not a repair company.” All Tech has done a food drive and Dawson donates to youth sports teams. He also recycles electronics.
