Exterior Additions | Indian Trail, N.C.

Before Angie’s List members fawned over Exterior Additions’ decks and porches, owner Doug Lynch focused on home building and remodeling. Today, the eight-time Super Service Award winner still offers remodeling services, but focuses the bulk of his work
on exterior spaces because he says that’s what members want.

“My favorite part is seeing the final product,” says Lynch,
a licensed general contractor recently named one of the
Top 40 Contractors Under
40 by Professional Remodeler magazine. “With porches, you can have a beautiful finished structure within weeks.”

Waxhaw, N.C., Angie's List member Julie Carter praised Lynch and his crew for replacing her deck
and adding a screened-in porch. “These guys are masters of their trade,” she says. Other members applaud the company for its carpentry work and ideas, as well as small details such as allowing their children to watch while they work and finding just the right doggie door.

Lynch also salvages wood and materials from projects to recycle or donate to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore and drives a hybrid company car when traveling between job sites. Angie's List member Rhett Brown of Huntersville, N.C., says he interviewed about 10 contractors before finding Exterior Additions, which he says delivered from beginning to end on his expectations for his deck remodel. “He is the contractor that everyone wishes, and prays, to find,” Brown wrote in one
of 16 Page of Happiness nominations the company received last year.

All Points Carpet Care | Mooresville, N.C.

From the first carpet cleaning All Points performed in Angie's List member Julian Mozeley’s Stanley, N.C., home, Mozeley says she and her husband, David, knew they’d finally found the carpet cleaner they’d been searching for in owner Tony Solis. “When my husband saw how well he did and I told him how he explained everything, he said OK just get a standing appointment with him,” Julian says. “He got every single stain up, everything.”

The Mozeleys rely on Solis to return every three months to keep the carpet looking new despite the shedding from their dog and cat, who benefit from his pet-safe cleaning solutions. “My pets loved him and they can tell good people,” she says.

Solis says he tries to give back to the four-legged friends who give him so much business. “I make a lot of money because pets ruin carpet, so I donate money to [American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals] and bring food to a local animal shelter [Humane Society of Iredell, N.C.],” he says.

Prior to starting All Points in 2010, Solis worked in the carpet cleaning, repair and stretching business for about 17 years. When he emigrated from Costa Rica 25 years ago, he got his start in auto detailing, which taught him to pay attention to details. “I enjoy seeing the reaction of people once the job is completed; it’s an immediate reward,” Solis says, adding that he credits Angie’s List with the growth and success of his business.

Since his first member review in September 2011, Solis garnered a string of more than 100 straight A reviews and more than 50 Page of Happiness nominations in 2012 alone. Though his business requires no license, he follows industry best practices, including Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification guidelines. “Every stain can be handled a different way, and I have to identify the type of stain and use proper carpet chemicals,” he says.

Angie's List member Ethel Clarke of Charlotte, N.C., hired Solis in August and again in October because he so impressed her compared to past cleaners she’s hired all over the U.S. “All Points employs cleaning techniques that are far and above any service I have used,” she wrote in her A review.

Imported Stone | Charlotte, N.C.

After more than a month of fruitless searching for his ideal granite slab, Angie's List member Clinton McDade,
who lives near the SouthPark area in Charlotte, N.C., turned to Imported Stone, which located the perfect stone for his countertop from a shop in Atlanta. “You couldn’t find a better vendor — I just wish I’d found them to begin with,” says McDade, who gave the three-time Best Contractor and five-time Super Service Award winner one of its 17 Page of Happiness nominations in the past year.

Owners Tom and Barb Waite went into the stone business after searching for their own granite slab seven years and nearly 1,400 kitchens ago. Tom says the business, which requires no license, uses green practices such as recycling old sinks, but owes its success to well-trained employees. “We’ve dealt with so many different customers,” he says. “Over time, we’ve developed knowledge of stones, the industry and what consumers want.”

Adams Tile Repair Co. |Charlotte, N.C.

Owner Mack Adams spent most of his adulthood as an electrical engineer, but changed careers in the late 1990s after a bad experience with a tile contractor working on his home. Adams did the work himself and enjoyed it so much that he began taking on tile jobs from his stepfather, a general contractor. Finding a knack for the work, he started his own tile business in 1999.

“In engineering,
it’s either right or it’s wrong,” says Adams,
a three-time Super Service Award winner whose work requires no license. “To me, when I repair ceramic tile it’s either done properly or it’s a waste.”

Matthews, N.C., Angie's List member Cathy Cherry says Adams’ suggestions for her shower saved her from an ugly patch job that another contractor had recommended. “When he got done, it looked brand-new,” says Cherry, who submitted one of 10 Page of Happiness nominations in the past year.
