Best Boston Contractors of 2012
Boudreau Painting | Wakefield, Mass.
Angie’s List member Kelly Walsh of Stoneham, Mass., says Boudreau Painting co-owners Donna Boudreau and Denise Stone won her over with apple bread and a quality painting job on her newly finished basement. “Bringing me sweet bread on the first day and insisting on using low-VOC paint to protect my unborn child instantly put me at ease,” says Walsh, who nominated the company for a Page of Happiness, one of 11 it received from members in the past year. The duo also remained professional and friendly during her tired 3-year-old’s pre-nap tantrum. “For the quality of work and their exceptional attitudes, you won’t find better painters.”
Boudreau and Stone, whose work doesn’t require a license, started the business 15 years ago after their assembly line jobs were outsourced. “It feels like the hard work and lean times have paid off,” says Stone, adding that she likes to break the ice by bringing treats to clients and their pets.
Stone says she and Boudreau strongly believe in the pay-it-forward concept and give back to the community by offering free painting services to their church, library and hospital cancer ward. The company services Reading, Wakefield, Woburn, Winchester and southern New Hampshire.
Phil’s Floor Services | Quincy, Mass.
Four-time Super Service Award winner Phil Nguyen used to work as a lead-test technician, but started his flooring business nine years ago to utilize his carpentry skills. Nguyen’s family business specializes in hardwood flooring, which doesn’t require a license. “Our first priority is quality,” says the two-time Best Boston Contractor.
Angie's List member Sarah Hagan, who lives in the Back Bay area, says Nguyen refinished her condo’s oak floors. “One of the reasons I loved working with Phil is he thinks outside of the cookie cutter box,” says Hagan, one of 10 members who nominated Phil’s for a Page of Happiness in the past year.
Nguyen donates to several charities, including the Special Olympics, and follows green practices such as using low-VOC products when permitted.
Wired Electrical Contractors | Marlborough, Mass.
After moving from Ireland 14 years ago, licensed electrician Paul Crowley launched his career in the states after working for a local electrician. In 2007, Crowley started his own two-man operation and is looking for ways to expand. “My business isn’t just about turning a light on; it’s about service,” he says.
Angie's List members nominated Wired Electrical 10 times for a Page of Happiness in the past year, including Marlborough, Mass., Angie's List member Jeremy Nosser, who hired Crowley twice for wiring work. He says he trusts Crowley enough to leave his house key and his dogs out. “He’s definitely pet friendly,” Nosser says.
Crowley says he often suggests ways for customers to make their home more energy efficient, including installing motion-detecting light systems in children’s playrooms.
