Bedford client, plumber disagree on details of jacuzzi installation
COMPLAINT: Paul Dagostino, Bedford, N.Y.
"I hired Armstrong Plumbing & Heating Inc. to install a jacuzzi. The plumber said the faucet could not be deck mounted. He also said it could not go where I wanted on the tub rim.
"After drilling the holes and beginning the faucet hook-up, the plumber said the tub's PVC pipe was in the way. I contacted other plumbing houses to find a solution. No one had any suggestions.
"The tub was never installed and I was sent a bill for an additional day's labor. I later sought two estimates and both said the faucet could have been deck mounted; the holes for the faucet were just in the wrong position."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "Replace the jacuzzi or financial settlement."
RESPONSE: Michael S. Bell, president, Armstrong Plumbing & Heating Inc.
"We were called to do an estimate. The owner, who was his own general contractor, agreed to the price we quoted.
"The jacuzzi faucet could not be installed where he wanted it to go. The plumber told the owner he would charge him for time and material. The owner agreed.
"The owner then said he was spending more than he wanted to, and he wanted to put it on hold for now. We then tried to reschedule the work and that's when he started complaining about the price. We billed for the work that was done. He told our plumber he would have a check ready to be picked up, but no one has reached him since."
