Backed up sewer line source of Dallas plumbing dispute

COMPLAINT: Doris Tucker, Longview, Texas

"I hired Ernie's Plumbing to unclog a bathroom drain on my rental house. They said they needed to replace 20 feet of sewer line.

"The plumber didn't install the pipe correctly and now the sewage is backing up. They came out three times, but the sewage still backs up and the sewer line is still uncovered.

"They finally agreed to redo the line, plus go under the porch and connect the sewer line to the kitchen drain."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want reimbursed $3,690."

RESPONSE:  B L Zubkus, Account Receiving

"When our office learned of the additional problems the member was experiencing, we dispatched our plumber to her home at no charge.

"We ran a camera down the home's vent pipe. Unfortunately, our camera showed that an additional separate line was stopped up. This had nothing to do with our original repair.

"We've tried desperately to resolve her plumbing issue. We met with the City of Longview several times, and based upon their recommendations, we agreed to reroute a portion of her sewer line for free.

"We never agreed to connect [the line] to her kitchen drain. We needed to reroute it to her main sewer line. This existing sewer line connects on to our spot repair and wasn't in the original estimate.

"She canceled numerous appointments. The last time, we were informed by Longview Code Enforcement that she had sold the property. It's Ernie's Plumbing Service highest priority to attempt to resolve every complaint we receive. In her case, we simply couldn't."
