Atlanta wedding planners discuss their trade

What's the advantage of hiring a wedding planner for your big day?

Emily Hoffman-Smalling: "You can enjoy the anticipation of the wedding itself while we take care of the nuances that arise in planning a wedding."

Bev Wilson: "The event is less stressful, and you have a higher chance that things will get done without drama."

Rhonda Eggert: "It's best to have one person who handles all of the vendors. That way the family and couple can just enjoy the day."

As a wedding coordinator, what are some of your job duties?

Emily Hoffman-Smalling: "Our duties can range from referring vendors to making handmade invitations. We strive to provide a relaxing, stress-free planning experience."

Bev Wilson: "Basically, to make the bride and family feel comfortable, manage the budget and help select the right vendors."

Rhonda Eggert: "Manage the wedding day, contact vendors, make a time line, run a rehearsal, and assist in picking venues. I try to make their dream come true."

How do you charge for your services and what's the cost?

Emily Hoffman-Smalling: "We currently offer two basic packages that can be customized to meet the needs of each couple. Prices range from $500 to $3,250."

Bev Wilson: "We charge a modest price based on how much we're going to do. Our full-service starts at $1,500 and goes up to $2,500."

Rhonda Eggert: "It depends. I have custom packages based on how much they want me to do and the size of the wedding. It's typically $50 to $75 an hour."

How do you help a couple manage their wedding budget? Is this difficult, especially if a bride has her heart set on a specific plan?

Emily Hoffman-Smalling: "We must use our skills and business connections to find the money within the budget to make 'must-haves' happen."

Bev Wilson: "No means no. We have to stay within the budget once it's set, so I help her choose things that meet both her expectations and budget."

Rhonda Eggert: "Over the years, I've made lots of contacts with different vendors, so I know about what they charge. I try very hard to match quality vendors within the budget we discussed."

What makes your service stand out from what other wedding planners offer?

Emily Hoffman-Smalling: "We do only one event per day, our commitment to our clients is unparalleled, and our competitive pricing. It's our goal to price packages so every couple can afford a wedding coordinator."

Bev Wilson: "We specialize in themed events. We're not your average planner - we're not stuffy. I realize that it's not our day, it's the client's day and we guarantee they'll have the time of their life."

Rhonda Eggert: "I think you get great value and attention to detail for the amount of money you're spending. I put a lot of effort and time into each and every one. I do whatever it takes to get the job done."
